A small part that must remain visible creates a different challenge from a larger piece that needs support. The tool becomes easier to understand when the workpiece, the working area and the intended movement are considered together.

Before drawing a mechanism, it helps to describe a single task in plain language. What needs to stay still? What needs to remain accessible? Where will the hands and other tools move? These questions establish a useful brief without committing to a particular shape.

Consider the points of contact

A holding tool connects the workpiece to the bench through a small number of contact areas. Their position and shape influence access as well as how the part is supported. A design that looks compact in a drawing can still obstruct the very detail someone wants to work on.

An early layout can therefore focus on relationships: the space around the workpiece, the reach of the adjustment and the area available for the next operation. At this stage, a clear view of the task is more valuable than a long list of features.

Make adjustment understandable

Adjustment is part of the experience of using a tool. The person using it should be able to see what changes, find the relevant control and understand the result. Small decisions about placement and feedback can make a mechanism easier to approach.

The goal is a sequence that feels considered: position, adjust and continue working. A prototype offers a way to explore that sequence before refining the appearance. Notes about reach, visibility and repeated movements help keep the discussion specific.

Leave room for the next question

A useful design review ends with something that can be explored next. That might be a contact detail, a different adjustment layout or a clearer way to show position. Separating questions makes the next prototype easier to evaluate.

This sample article illustrates the kind of workshop thinking the JITOLAB blog can share. Future entries can replace these general observations with original photographs, sketches and documented findings from a real project.

中文维护备注：本文为原创英文占位稿，不代表已完成的产品研发、测试或质量承诺；正式发布品牌故事时，请换成经过核实的实拍资料与实际记录。

Explore more workshop notes ↗

From sketch to the first prototype ↗

A sample workshop note on starting with the task, considering contact points and making adjustment easier to understand.

["post-96","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
